‘The extraordinary presidential election was conducted in our country in February this year and Ilham Aliyev won a landslide victory in it. The essence of the election consists in that it was for the first time that it was held over the whole sovereign territory of Azerbaijan.’
Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova said the above whilst addressing the 14th Plenary Session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly. She said that Azerbaijan had recovered her lands from the 30-year Armenian occupation and had restored her territorial integrity in the 44-day Patriotic War of 2020. Mrs Gafarova added that the anti-terrorist measures taken in September last year had eliminated separatism from our lands and Azerbaijan had restored its sovereignty in all its own territories.
The Speaker of the Milli Majlis emphasised the large-scale restoration work that Azerbaijan carried on in the de-occupied territories with reliance on major investments. The former IDP have begun to return to their homes. Their numbers will reach 140,000 by the end of 2026.
