On 15 July, as part of the working visit of Anar Guliyev, Chairman of the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, to New York, a meeting was held with Anacláudia Rossbach, Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat).

The discussions focused on advancing the agreements reached during the World Urban Forum (WUF13), held in Baku in May this year, as well as on the next phase of cooperation between Azerbaijan and UN-Habitat.

The parties noted that the thirteenth session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), the largest in the Forum’s history, brought together more than 58,000 participants from 176 countries and introduced a number of landmark initiatives put forward by Azerbaijan. In particular, they highlighted that, for the first time in the history of the Forum, a Leaders’ Segment was held, elevating discussions on sustainable urbanization to the level of Heads of State and Government, as well as leaders of international organizations, and giving greater political prominence to the global urban agenda.

The parties emphasized that the decisions adopted and initiatives launched during WUF13 have laid a solid foundation for future international cooperation. The adoption of the Baku Call to Action and the Chair’s Summary, the establishment of the Baku Urban Award, and the launch of new international cooperation platforms were recognized as key outcomes that will contribute to expanding multilateral and multi-level partnerships.

Building on these achievements, the parties discussed the next steps for advancing the legacy of WUF13, translating the Forum’s initiatives into practical action, and implementing new joint projects between Azerbaijan and UN-Habitat.
