A charity event called "Down is not a disease, but a difference" was held at the Rehabilitation Center for Down Syndrome under the organization of the Baku City Youth and Sports General Department under the Public Union "Care for a Healthy Generation" established by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
Many sports federations, well-known athletes, public associations participated in the charity event.
Natella Hasanova, director of the Down Syndrome Rehabilitation Center, spoke first at the event. He said that there are hundreds of people with Down syndrome in Azerbaijan, as in the whole world: "Both they and their parents face many problems. This is mainly due to the lack of necessary knowledge about Down's syndrome in our society."
Later, Ragif Abbasov, the head of the Youth and Sports Directorate of Baku city, gave a speech. He stated that the purpose of the event is primarily to draw attention to the fact that Down syndrome is not a disease, but a genetic difference, to spend time with children undergoing rehabilitation at the center, to play a role in their socialization, and to ensure closer integration of children with Down syndrome into society:
"Today, in our country, such persons are cared for at the state level. Psychology, pre-school preparation, parent rooms, biology and zoology rooms, and various associations operate for Down syndrome patients in the Down Syndrome Rehabilitation Center built by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. Today we have come to their meeting. We hope that this meeting will continue."
After the official speeches, games were performed by the children of the center. At the same time, artistic fun games were organized for children within the framework of the program, as well as exemplary performances of various sports of children studying at the center with our athletes.
