Baku State University (BSU) has achieved a major milestone in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2026, entering the 101–200 band globally for the first time and securing a place among the world’s top 200 universities for sustainable development impact. The university significantly improved its performance compared to last year, when it was ranked in the 401–600 band.
More than 1,600 universities were assessed in the 2026 edition of the rankings. BSU demonstrated strong performance across 16 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and ranked among the world’s top 100 universities in five categories. The university placed 23rd for SDG 1 (No Poverty), 63rd for SDG 4 (Quality Education), 3rd for SDG 5 (Gender Equality), 40th for SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and 92nd for SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions).
The THE Impact Rankings evaluate universities’ contributions to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, considering performance in teaching, research, governance, social responsibility, community engagement, and environmental sustainability.
This achievement further strengthens BSU’s position in the global higher education landscape and highlights its growing contribution to sustainable development.
