From May 14 to 16, the National Gymnastics Arena hosted exciting artistic gymnastics competitions.
Nearly 50 gymnasts from five countries participated in the tournament, where both female and male athletes competed for the championship titles. The gymnasts performed in the junior and senior age categories.
Representing our country in the senior women’s category were Nazanin Teymurova, Deniz Aliyeva, Ayten Mammadova, and Khadija Abbaszada. In the junior women’s category, Azerbaijan was represented by Albina Aliyeva, Leyla Mammadzada, Aynaz Majidzada, and Lala Zamanli.
In the men’s competition, Rasul Ahmadzada, Aydin Alizada, and Nikita Simonov competed in the senior category, while Miryusif Ahmadzada, Ilham Salayev, Mahir Salimov, Isgandar Javadzada, and Mohammad Rustamzada represented the junior category.
On the first day of the tournament, junior gymnasts received awards in the team and individual all-around competitions.
Both our women’s and men’s junior teams won bronze medals in the team event. In the individual all-around competition, Leyla Mammadzada earned a bronze medal among the women.
On the second day, senior gymnasts showcased their performances in the all-around competition. In the all-around finals, Rasul Ahmadzada won a gold medal in the men’s event, while Khadija Abbaszada secured a bronze medal in the women’s category.
The final day of the competition was marked by the excitement of the apparatus finals. Gymnasts from both junior and senior categories completed their performances on individual apparatuses, with our athletes achieving remarkable success.
In the junior category, Ilham Salayev won a bronze medal in floor exercise. Leyla Mammadzada also claimed three bronze medals in vault, uneven bars, and floor exercise.
In the senior category, Rasul Ahmadzada won gold medals in pommel horse and horizontal bar; Deniz Aliyeva won gold in vault and silver on uneven bars; Nikita Simonov earned gold on rings; Nazanin Teymurova won gold on balance beam; Aydin Alizada claimed bronze on parallel bars; and Khadija Abbaszada won bronze in vault.
As a result, our gymnasts completed the tournament with a total of 17 medals.
