A Republican scientific conference titled “Modern Philology: Problems, Challenges, Goals” was held at the Faculty of Philology of Baku State University (BSU), dedicated to the 103rd anniversary of the birth of national leader Heydar Aliyev.
Opening the event, Dean of the Faculty Elchin Mammadov highlighted the significant role of Heydar Aliyev in shaping Azerbaijan’s social, public, and economic development. He noted that the development strategy defined by the national leader is being successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev. Emphasizing the responsibility of philologists, the dean stated that contributing to the advancement of the Azerbaijani language and literature remains a key priority, and the conference serves this purpose. It was noted that nearly 200 academic papers were presented at the event.
Head of the Department of General Linguistics, academician Nizami Jafarov, delivered a keynote presentation titled “The Ideology of Azerbaijanism by Heydar Aliyev.” He outlined the core principles of this ideology, including respect for the native language, commitment to statehood, and appreciation of national history, noting that its development and public dissemination are closely tied to the political course established by the national leader.
During the plenary session, participants also heard presentations by Professor Elbruz Azizov on “Heydar Aliyev’s Care for the Azerbaijani Language” and Associate Professor Meti Osmanoglu on “Heydar Aliyev and National Culture.”
The conference continued its work across nine thematic sections, where around 100 additional academic reports were presented.
