Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met on 6 May with the visiting delegation led by Prosecutor General of Mongolia Jargalsaikhan Banzragch.
The Speaker of the Milli Majlis expressed a hope that this visit will contribute to the progress of the ties between the prosecution authorities of Azerbaijan and Mongolia.
The Speaker broached the development of our relations on the foundation of friendship, mutual support and shared respect since the diplomatic relations were established between the two countries in 1992.
As she brought up the exceptional role of high-level and summit reciprocal visits in the strengthening of the bilateral ties, Sahiba Gafarova stressed the significance of the meeting of President Ilham Aliyev with President of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh during the latter’s visit to our country for the COP29 held in Baku in November 2024. She mentioned President Ilham Aliyev’s having described that first visit of the President of Mongolia to Azerbaijan as a historic event.
The Speaker of the Milli Majlis broached our countries’ effective co-operation in international organisations. The Speaker informed the guest of the co-operation between the Milli Majlis and the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the history of parliamentarism in Azerbaijan as well as the structure, international endeavours and law-making process of the modern Parliament. She said that the currently operating Milli Majlis of the VII convocation had been formed based on the outcomes of the elections held in 2024. Those said elections stood out especially as the first ones held across the whole sovereign territory of Azerbaijan.
In continuation of the meeting, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis stated her thoughts regarding mutually rewarding co-operation with the Parliament of Mongolia and the activities of the Working Group for inter-parliamentary relations with this country.
Thanking for the valuable information, Prosecutor General of Mongolia Jargalsaikhan Banzragch shared his impressions from the visit to our country.
As he touched upon the development of the ties between the prosecution authorities of the two countries, the guest talked about the prospects of co-operation with the Prosecutor General’s Office of Azerbaijan. He remarked that the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two countries’ Prosecutor General’s Offices today is going to contribute to the protection of both countries’ citizens’ rights and to the discouragement of crime. Also, the guest shared information about the co-operation between the Prosecutor General’s Office and Parliament in Mongolia, the activities of the country’s prosecution system and the progress perspectives of the prosecution authorities.
The meeting also included an exchange of opinions about other matters of shared interest.
