Azerbaijan’s initiatives in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) have once again received international recognition. In particular, the report published by the International Transport Forum (ITF), titled “Skills Move us Forward: Transport Workforce Skills in the Age of AI – Summary and Conclusions,” gives special attention to the country’s experience.
The report analyzes policy approaches to developing workforce skills in the context of AI adoption and identifies key priorities for governments. In this context, the “Artificial Intelligence Strategy of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2025–2028” is highlighted as a positive example.
It is particularly emphasized that Azerbaijan’s approach presents AI not as a risk to the labor market, but as a new opportunity for professional development. Within the Strategy, raising public awareness of artificial intelligence, as well as promoting its ethical and responsible use, have been identified as key priorities. To this end, training programs ranging from foundational knowledge to more advanced STEM-based curricula are being implemented through the Artificial Intelligence Academy established under the National Artificial Intelligence Center. The Strategy also envisages the training of 500 employees across various government institutions and the development a community of 3,000 AI specialists.
Overall, the report states that AI adoption in the transport sector is not only a technological issue but also one of skills development and labor market transformation. In this regard, the international recognition of Azerbaijan’s approach once again confirms that the country’s policies in this field are moving in the right direction. It also demonstrates that Azerbaijan’s consistent policy efforts in AI, digitalization, innovation, and human capital development are internationally recognized and serve as a model for other countries.
