On 17 February, the opening ceremony of the “Flowers in the Garden” exhibition dedicated to national costumes and ornaments of European Union countries took place at the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum. The exhibition was organised within the framework of the sixth “FantazEU” Cultural Heritage Festival, jointly by the Delegation of the European Union to Azerbaijan and “Arts Council Azerbaijan” with the support of the Embassies of EU Member States in Azerbaijan.
The exhibition includes 16 national costumes from Bulgaria, Czechia, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Slovakia. They showcase rich cultural diversity, traditions from different historical periods, identity and ornamental specifics of the clothes of the EU nations.
At the same time, the exhibition features Azerbaijani national costumes, preserved in the museum's collection and embodying the history and cultural heritage of Azerbaijan as well as the "Flowers in the Garden" and "Alpan" carpets. The exhibition draws parallels between the cultural heritage of Europe and Azerbaijan, highlighting the universal aesthetic values of ornaments and patterns.
The main goal of the exhibition is to introduce the Azerbaijani audience to traditional national costumes reflecting the centuries-old craftsmanship traditions of European peoples as well as to show the artistic and cultural similarities between European and Azerbaijani decorative and applied arts. The project aims to promote intercultural dialogue, highlight common aesthetic values and highlight the importance of preserving and promoting national heritage.
The "Flowers in the Garden" exhibition will continue until 21 February.
