On January 31, 2026, the opening of the exhibition “Abstract ol” (“Be Abstract”) took place at the AYDANI Gallery.
The project brought together 30 artists representing various creative directions and levels of professional training. The exhibition featured members of the Artists’ Union, lecturers of the Academy of Arts, professional artists with academic backgrounds, as well as talented amateur artists.
The exhibition showcased 32 artworks dedicated to the theme of abstraction and was divided into three sections.
The first section presented works of pure abstraction created with oil and acrylic paints on canvas. These pieces focused on form, color, and emotional perception, without referencing the objective world.
The second section consisted of figurative artworks enriched with elements of abstraction. Lemons, horses, and other recognizable images were depicted against abstract backgrounds, creating a distinctive atmosphere and enhancing artistic expression.
The third section was devoted to abstract artworks created using various techniques. It featured tapestries, mixed media and graphic works, as well as pieces made with glass, paper, and other non-traditional materials. This gave the exhibition an experimental and multi-layered character.
At the opening ceremony, art critic and Doctor of Philosophy Galib Gasimov delivered a speech, thanking the organizers and participants, wishing success to the artists, and especially highlighting the active and productive work of the AYDANI Gallery, which has implemented numerous interesting artistic projects over the past year.
The event also featured a speech by a prominent figure of Azerbaijani art, artist Firdovsi Atayev, who spoke in detail about the history and characteristics of the abstract style, shared professional insights, and offered valuable advice to young artists.
The exhibition opening was hosted by the gallery’s curator, digital artist, and employee of the Azerbaijan National Art Museum, Sevil Karimova.
In her speech, the gallery director and artist Aydan Mammadova emphasized that more than 200 — nearly 300 — applications were submitted for participation in the project, but as a result of a strict professional selection, only 32 works by 30 artists were included in the exhibition.
A reception was organized for guests and participants. The exhibition was attended by well-known Azerbaijani artists, representatives of the art community, and art enthusiasts.
The event took place in a warm and creative atmosphere and lasted from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
