Based on Resolution No. MSC.560(108) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), a new requirement has been added to the relevant table of the International Code. This requirement covers the topic of “Contributing to the prevention of and response to violence and harassment, including sexual harassment, bullying, and sexual assault.”
According to the innovation implemented by the State Maritime and Port Agency (SMPA), individuals who have obtained the Special Training Certificate on “Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities / Basic Safety Familiarization, Basic Training and Instruction for All Seafarers” are now given the opportunity to enhance their knowledge in line with the new requirement in an online format. Seafarers can log in to the SMPA’s newly launched “My Cabinet” digital platform, participate in the relevant program under the “Training” section, and upon successful completion of the training, receive an electronic certificate of participation. Based on this document, it will be possible to renew the Special Training Certificate on “Basic Safety Familiarization, Basic Training and Instruction for All Seafarers” directly through an examination, without attending additional training sessions.
Those who are undergoing this training for the first time, however, must participate only in in-person trainings organized at training and education centers that have been issued a certificate of compliance by the SMPA.
For information, it should be noted that within the current year, the placement of new trainings on the “My Cabinet” platform aimed at enhancing seafarers’ knowledge and skills in accordance with international requirements is planned.
The organization of trainings in line with international standards and their availability in digital format will make a significant contribution to ensuring that Azerbaijani seafarers operate safely, continuously, and in compliance with international standards in both domestic and international waters, to the formation of a healthy and safe working environment at sea, and to increasing the efficiency of management in the maritime sector.
It should also be noted that users can access the “My Cabinet” platform through the “Personal Cabinet” section available on the official website of the SMPA, as well as via the direct access link.
