Batumi was the hoist of the sixth annual football international tournament Kote’s Cup, which is held in memory of our legendary sports commentator, public figure Kote Makharadze.
And, Georgia became the winner of this grandioso event. 8 teams took a part in the year’s cup (Host Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Moldova, Ukraine, Romania, Lithuania and Hungary). And only one came out victorious.
Georgia became the champion of this tournament for the second time. It is noticeable, that Ukraine took a part in this event after a four year absence.
Georgia won two out of three group stage games. 3:1 against Armenia, 5:1 versus Moldova and held a draw 0:0 with Lithuania. We were unstoppable in the later stages as well. 5:2 in the semiifinals vs Azerbaijan and a convincing 4:0 beating of Ukraine in the final.
Cotne Kinkladze was named the MVP of the event, while the best midfielder award went to another Georgian Zurab Makaradze. The main prize was designed by Levan Vardosanidze and was awarded to the champion team by Sports Deputy Minister Iakli Dolaberidze. During the event an important conference was held in the Hotel Best Western Premier Batumi. Almost all the participants took a place there and held the conversations about the challenges and problems in today’s sport journalism.
The event was held by Georgian Sports Ministry, and with the support of Adjarian Sports Department and the local sports journalist’s association.
