Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov who is on a visit to Washington met with the Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, the Assistant Secretary of Commerce and Director General of the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service David L. Fogel, and Executive Director of White House National Energy Dominance Council Jarrod Agen.
At the meetings, issues related to increasing energy cooperation between the two countries to a qualitatively new stage were discussed. It was noted with satisfaction that the United States has been a reliable partner of Azerbaijan in the field of energy for many years, as well as continued support for the implementation of major infrastructure projects serving energy security in the region and Europe.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and U.S. President Donald Trump spoke about the strategic importance of the 8 August Washington meeting, which promotes energy cooperation to a new stage. In this regard, it was emphasized that the Strategic Partnership Charter prepared between Azerbaijan and the United States, as well as the TRIPP route, gave impetus to new bilateral and regional cooperation in the field of energy. Cooperation opportunities on oil and gas, electricity export-transit routes, TRIPP and other interconnector projects in line with the priorities of increasing investment in the energy sector and expanding the infrastructure on regional connections were discussed. Also, the expansion of cooperation with ExxonMobil, a participant in the project on the development of Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli deposits, as well as the multilateral activities of SOCAR Trading in Houston were considered. The exchange of views has taken place regarding possible partnerships in various areas, including technologies and data centers with U.S. companies, the establishment of a regular dialogue mechanism in the energy sector, and the development of a comprehensive roadmap for energy cooperation.
