Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova had a meeting on 20 December with a delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro Ervin Ibrahimović.
The current state and growth prospects of the existing friendly and partnerly ties between Azerbaijan and Montenegro were discussed at the meeting.
The dramatic role of the reciprocal high-level and summit visits in the advancement of the inter-state relations was high-lit, as was their significance for reviewing the bilateral agenda. In this context were mentioned the contribution to the progress of the friendly bonds between the two countries made by the official visit of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr Ilham Aliyev to Montenegro in 2013 as well as of the visit to our country in relation to the COP29 of President of Montenegro Yakov Milatović in November 2014 and his meetings with President Ilham Aliyev.
Issues related to co‑operation between the countries in economic, tourism, investment and other spheres were discussed during the meeting along with various aspects of the bilateral agenda. It was emphasised that the active and constructive political dialogue generates new opportunities for other fields as well. At the same time, the importance of humanitarian and cultural co‑operation was pointed up as significant directions bringing the peoples closer together.
It was pointed out that inter-parliamentary co-operation is a considerable component of the bilateral relations; special attention was given to the role of parliamentary diplomacy. The Speaker of Parliament mentioned contentedly her official visit to Montenegro and the high-level meetings held there in April 2024 and then broached the official visits of the Chairmen of the Montenegrin Parliament to Azerbaijan at various times. The Speaker of Parliament emphasised the importance of the contacts between the legislative bodies, of reciprocal visits and of the work done by the friendship groups active in the parliaments whilst also underlining the tremendous role of such interactions in the development of the inter-parliamentary dialogue. The importance of intensifying the exchange of experience in the legislative field between the parliaments' specialist committees and the mutual support in international parliamentary organisations was stressed as well. 
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro Ervin Ibrahimović spoke of the great importance that his country attaches to furthering the relationship with Azerbaijan and lauded the close political dialogue of the two countries. He expressed gratitude for last year's visit of the Speaker of the Milli Majlis to Montenegro and remarked upon that visit's contribution to the progress of the bilateral relations.
Having mentioned that Azerbaijan was the biggest investor country for Montenegro in 2019, the guest touched upon the unique place occupied in the development of the inter-state relations by the tourism industry. Ervin Ibrahimović underscored the presence of extensive opportunities for deepening the co-operation in this sector.
