Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova had a meeting with the delegation led by Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Seyed Abbas Araghchi on 8 December.
It was said during the meeting that the visits of President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian to our country this year as well as other reciprocal visits and high-level meetings and the documents signed are essential for the progress of the bilateral relations whilst demonstrating the high saturation of the inter-state co-operation agenda.
It was said that the strengthening of the ties and expansion of the co-operation opportunities between our countries in the politico-economic, trading and transport fields as well as the cultural and humanitarian area contribute to the continuing deepening of the bilateral relations remarkably. At the same time, they high-lit the immense significant of the work done by the Inter-State Commission for economic, trading and humanitarian co-operation between Azerbaijan and Iran, and of the joint projects that are being carried into life.
The meeting saw an exchange of opinions about the importance of co-operation between our legislative bodies as one of the factors of substantial impact upon the advancement of the ties between the two countries. Sahiba Gafarova recalled her visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran fondly, saying that the meetings held during that visit had contributed positively to the relationship between our parliaments.
Having mentioned active co-operation, bilateral as well as in such influential international organisations as the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the Non-Aligned Movement’s Parliamentary Network, the Parliamentary Union of the Organisation for Islamic Co-operation Member States and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Economic Co-operation Organisation, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis accentuated the necessity of continuing joint efforts to expand those bonds more. The importance of enhancing the role of the working groups active in the Parliaments was brought up, too, in this connexion.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Seyed Abbas Araghchi remarked that his country attached a great importance to furthering the relations with Azerbaijan and mentioned the existing close political dialogue of the two countries. As he was sharing his impressions of the meeting with President Ilham Aliyev during the visit, the guest said that the meeting had gone in a sincere and constructive spirit. He lauded the high standards set by the politico-economic ties and underlined the significance of deepening the relations between the two nations and legislative bodies.
There was an exchange of views upon the current state and growth prospects of the inter-parliamentary relations at the meeting.
