The historic steps taken by the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev to protect our language and to elevate it to the status of a national language are undeniable.
Speaker Sahiba Gafarova said so in her address at the conference ‘The Strategy of Developing the Azerbaijani Language as a National Language: the Modern Situation and the Prospects’ held in the Parliament today. According to the Speaker, the 1969-1982 period in which the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev helmed Azerbaijan as his first tenure went down in our national history also as a period of cultural renaissance. The legal foundations for the preservation and development of the people’s spiritual heritage, especially, its language, were expanded then.
As the Speaker of the Milli Majlis pointed up, it was thanks to the resolve of the National Leader that the Azerbaijani language was given the status of a state language in 1978.
It was emphasised that our Constitution, adopted under the guidance of the Great Leader in 1995, reaffirmed the status of the Azerbaijani as a national language, which laid a solid foundation for our language policy to go on.
Speaker Sahiba Gafarova stressed also that that line, which was defined by the Great Leader, is continued purposefully by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the esteemed Mr Ilham Aliyev, in keeping with the demands of the modern epoch. Protection of the Azerbaijani language, development of literary language norms and the language’s integration with modern technologies are amongst the priority targets of the state policy.
