In accordance with the relevant resolution of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Maritime Safety Committee, as well as the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), an important update has been implemented.
Based on this update, a new competency — “Contributing to the prevention of and response to incidents of violence and harassment, including sexual harassment, bullying, and sexual assault” — has been added to Table A-VI/1-4 (Personal Safety and Social Responsibility) of the International Code.
In connection with this change, the model curriculum of the “Personal Survival Techniques, Basic Training and Instruction for All Seafarers” special training course has been amended. The updated plan now includes 6 hours dedicated to teaching the new competency. The total duration of the revised program is 80 hours, and it has been implemented starting December 1 of this year.
This update is of particular importance for ensuring safe and secure working conditions for seafarers. It also enables Azerbaijani seafarers to operate smoothly, without interruption, and in full compliance with standards both domestically and in international waters.
