The 6th meeting of the Joint intergovernmental commission on economic, technical and scientific cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt was held today in Cairo.
The co-chair of the Joint Commission from the Egyptian side, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat, welcomed the Azerbaijani delegation and noted that Azerbaijan and Egypt enjoy growing economic and cultural ties, and there is potential to further expand cooperation across various sectors.
At the meeting, the co-chair of the Joint Commission from the Azerbaijani side, Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rashad Nabiyev, presented an overview of the country’s macroeconomic indicators for the previous year and the volume of bilateral trade, emphasizing that the Joint Commission serves as an effective platform for deepening cooperation between the two countries.
It was also highlighted that revitalizing the activities of the Azerbaijan–Egypt Business Council could help further enhance bilateral trade relations.
Rashad Nabiyev briefed the Egyptian side on the current situation regarding peacebuilding efforts in the region, the post-conflict peace agenda, as well as the reconstruction and rehabilitation projects underway in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan. He noted that these territories are being rebuilt and have been designated as a “green energy” zone.
The minister also provided detailed information on ongoing initiatives in the fields of transport and digital development in Azerbaijan, including measures taken to advance the Middle Corridor.
During the meeting, the parties held extensive discussions on opportunities for cooperation in mutual investments, trade, the food industry and agriculture, energy, transport, digital development and ICT, science and education, healthcare, culture, tourism, as well as youth and sports.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Protocol of the 6th session of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Technical and Scientific Cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Arab Republic of Egypt was signed.
It should be noted that the Joint Commission was established in accordance with the “Agreement on Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt,” which was signed on 7 April 1994 in Cairo.
