As part of the World Telecommunication Development Conference, a seminar on “Digital Connectivity for Central Asia and the Caucasus” was organized in Baku by Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.
In his opening remarks, Samir Mammadov, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan, emphasized that the seminar’s topic carries strategic significance for the region’s development and future prosperity. He noted that the ongoing construction of the Trans-Caspian Fiber-Optic Cable Project will provide a high-speed and secure alternative route connecting Europe and Asia, positioning Azerbaijan as a regional digital hub.
Samir Mammadov stated that developing a resilient broadband infrastructure, approving the “Artificial Intelligence Strategy for 2025–2028,” and establishing the National Artificial Intelligence Center are key initiatives to strengthen Azerbaijan’s digital transformation.
During the event, a ceremony was held to exchange the “Memorandum of Cooperation in ICT and Postal Services between the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan,” signed by the two countries’ ministers.
Following the ceremony, a bilateral meeting took place between Samir Mammadov, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan, and Noriko Horiuchi, State Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan.
During the meeting, participants discussed opportunities for cooperation in priority areas, particularly in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things. They agreed to establish a working group and develop an action plan for implementing the Memorandum.
