On October 29, 2025, a briefing was organized for local media representatives ahead of the upcoming World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-25), scheduled to take place in Baku in November.
Rashad Bayramov, Advisor to the Minister of Digital Development and Transport; Orkhan Afandiyev, Head of International Event Organization; and Imran Mukhtarov, Head of the Space Academy under Azercosmos, provided information about the goals and benefits of the conference, as well as the participation of registered guests and media representatives.
It was noted that the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) World Telecommunication Development Conference will be held from November 17 to 28 this year at the Baku Convention Center. Being organized for the first time in the CIS region, the event will highlight Azerbaijan’s growing global role in digital transformation and technological innovation.
The ITU holds the World Telecommunication Development Conference every four years. The purpose of the event is to bridge the digital divide among countries, foster innovation, and strengthen partnerships for an inclusive and sustainable digital future. This year’s conference will bring together approximately 2,000 participants from over 150 countries.
Within the framework of WTDC-25, discussions will focus on global trends such as cybersecurity, digital skills, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, digital health, quantum technologies, and environmental protection. The event will also serve as a key platform for shaping next-generation ICT policies and strengthening international partnerships.
In recent years, Azerbaijan has made remarkable progress in digital transformation, the expansion of its startup ecosystem, and the development of e-government. Ongoing efforts to advance digital governance, expand broadband networks, and enhance digital literacy have placed the country in the “Very High EGDI” category of the United Nations E-Government Development Index. This conference will further reinforce Azerbaijan’s role in the global digital economy.
As part of WTDC-25, the Global Youth Summit will be held on November 16. The summit will bring together young leaders, engineers, entrepreneurs, and students from around the world, serving as a platform to enhance their technological knowledge, foster new partnerships, and discuss the professions of the future. The participation of Azerbaijani youth in this summit will create opportunities to gain international experience, implement technological ideas domestically, and develop new initiatives.
