A memorial event dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the January 20 tragedy, one of the heroic pages in the history of independent Azerbaijan, was held at AzerGold CJSC.

The event was attended by the management and staff of AzerGold CJSC and its subsidiary Daşkəsən Dəmir Filiz LLC, as well as children of January 20 martyrs and disabled people who participated in the Patriotic War.

The event brought to the attention of the public that 35 years ago, one of the most serious crimes against humanity was committed in Baku, the main purpose of the bloody tragedy was to silence our people protesting against this injustice in the years when we were faced with the aggressive policy of Armenia, which made territorial claims to our country, and to hinder the struggle for democracy and national liberation. However, it was noted that the events of January 20 further strengthened the aspiration of the brave, struggling Azerbaijani people for independence, their iron will, and that in the conditions of the collapse of the Soviet Union, our country regained its independence, and that with the persistent call of our people to defend this independence, the national leader Heydar Aliyev returned to power. It was emphasized that this struggle, started by the martyrs of January 20, is passed down from father to son and ends with the victory of our army during the 44-day Patriotic War under the leadership of the worthy successor of the great leader, Mr. President Ilham Aliyev, and that the children of the victims of the bloody January tragedy who fought in the ranks of our Armed Forces have a share in achieving a brilliant victory over the enemy. It was said that they, like their fathers, were destined by fate to show heroism in the fight against the enemy, to take revenge on their fathers for those who wanted to seize our lands. The children of the January 20 martyrs who participated in the Patriotic War then spoke and shared their impressions of the bloody tragedy and memories of their combat path in the Patriotic War. The war participants, who proudly noted the complete restoration of our people's territorial integrity and state sovereignty under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, informed the participants of the event that the struggle for freedom and independence, which began with the events of January 20, reached its logical conclusion thanks to the brilliant victory over the enemy on the battlefield.

The event ended with the screening of a feature documentary about the events of January 20.
