The First Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Bahruz Mammadov, held a meeting with a delegation led by Jan-Erik Enestam, the former Minister of Defense of the Republic of Finland.
During the meeting, the delegation was provided with detailed information about the scale of the existing landmine problem in Azerbaijan, including the indiscriminate and unregulated planting of landmines without adherence to any military norms, the severe contamination of civilian areas along with the former contact line areas, the discovered booby traps, and the large-scale humanitarian demining activities being carried out in our country to eliminate the landmine threat.
Jan-Erik Enestam expressed his gratitude for the information provided, praised Azerbaijan’s achievements in combating the landmine threat, and stated that the report to be prepared based on the information obtained during the visit to Azerbaijan would be presented to the relevant institutions in Finland.
At the same time, Bahruz Mammadov emphasized the importance of expanding international partnerships and support in addressing the landmine problem facing our country.
It should be noted that the meeting was organized based on an appeal from the “Finland-Azerbaijan Friendship Society” to the State Committee on Work with Diaspora of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
