‘We hope that Armenia will abstain from provocations, bringing in third parties with vested interests, and will cease from the continuing claims against the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.’

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova said so in her speech at the 14th Plenary Session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly. Those are reflected in the Constitution and other legislative acts of Armenia, according to the Speaker. The only path that leads to lasting peace and stability regionally lies through establishing relations with neighbours on the basis of international law’s norms and principles.

The Chair of the Milli Majlis remarked that Azerbaijan was taking great pains to ensure lasting peace and stability in the region. Azerbaijan’s proposals to normalise relations with Armenia and to sign a peace treaty are based on the staple principles of international law. It is still possible to sign a peace treaty, even with more than three years of Armenia’s political and military provocations. Speaker Sahiba Gafarova reminded the assembly of the meeting of the President of Azerbaijan and the Armenian PM on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference a few days ago. The achieved arrangements regarding peace treaty conversations and meetings about border delimitation can be viewed as a positive step taken.
