The exhibition “Rug Art Out of Space” by renowned rug designer Jan Kath opened at Heydar Aliyev Center within the framework of the 74th International Astronautical Congress taking place in Baku. The collection of 13 carpets combines space and contemporary art. The works reflect the mysterious beauty of the galaxy. The contemporary handmade rugs express the love of travelling and the spirit of adventure.
The collection is presented for the first time in Azerbaijan.
German designer Jan Kath combines classic elements of oriental rugs with modern minimalist design. Most of his rugs are hand-woven in Nepal. Jan Kath has won a number of prestigious awards for his original designs.
It will be recalled that the 74th International Astronautical Congress kicked off in Azerbaijan on 2 October. Baku first hosted this prestigious event in 1973 – during the first leadership of great leader Heydar Aliyev in the country. Fifty years later, the congress is being held again in Azerbaijan. The international event, attended by more than 5,300 representatives from 136 countries, will run until 6 October.
