The “Project Management Fundamentals” training programme was held for over 20 civil society organisations (CSOs) in Baku. The training was organised as part of the ‘Developing innovation-driven and sustainable civil society in Azerbaijan’ project, funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP, on increasing CSOs’ capacities.
The project channels efforts toward multi-faceted capacity building programmes in a number of key areas by offering CSOs in Azerbaijan new knowledge of contemporary methodologies and techniques as well as the opportunity for exchange of practical experiences. As evidenced by the previous capacity needs assessment conducted by the project, CSOs indicated project management skills among their priority training needs.
To this aim, the training was implemented to strengthen the project management skills of the CSOs to enable them to plan and implement quality development projects. 8-hours training brought together around 30 people from 22 civil society organisations of Baku, Barda, Bilasuvar, Ganja, Mingachevir, and Sheki cities. The training participants represented the organisations that were selected by the project to implement small-scale initiatives supporting local SDG agenda. Thus, both the training workshop and the mentoring meetings were tailored to ensure proper planning and successful implementation of their individual activities.
At the training, the participants have enhanced their understanding of the project lifecycle, learnt new skills to help them administer various project management processes, also how to design strong project management structures and mitigate project risks.
The one-day training on project management will be followed by a series of mentoring meetings with CSOs to facilitate their individual progress. The mentoring will continue till the end of September.
