The third edition of the Suqovushan European Mini Football Tournament brought together players, families, children, diplomats, and supporters from across Europe for a remarkable celebration of sport, friendship, and cultural exchange in Brussels.
Organized by the MADANI Platform and taking place around Independence Day of Azerbaijan, 28th of May, the tournament has grown into the largest Azerbaijani-led football event in Europe, welcoming participants from 24 teams and representing more than 10 countries. Teams travelled from across the continent, including Azerbaijani community teams from Sweden and Estonia, reflecting the tournament's growing European appeal and its ability to connect communities beyond borders.
This year's event welcomed not only football teams but also families and children, creating a true football festival atmosphere. Representatives from embassies, diplomatic missions, and international organizations took part, including colleagues and community members connected to NATO Headquarters, as well as the embassies of Ukraine, Georgia, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, and Kyrgyzstan.
Supported by Azerbaijani Embassy in Belgium and Azerbaijan State Diaspora Committee, the tournament was further honoured by the presence of ambassadors, distinguished guests, and renowned Belgian FIFA referee Frank De Bleeckere, whose participation highlighted the sporting significance and growing reputation of the event.
Speaking during the tournament, MADANI Platform Chairman Emin Aliyev expressed pride in seeing the event reach its third edition:
"Suqovushan symbolizes tolerance, patience, victory, and long-term vision. What started as a football tournament has become a true football fiesta. Every year it grows bigger, introduces new elements, and brings together more people from different backgrounds. Football builds bridges between people, creates new connections, and strengthens friendships. We are honoured by the participation of ambassadors, diplomats, international organizations, and communities from across Europe."
He added:
"The Suqovushan Tournament has become the largest Azerbaijani-led football tournament in Europe. We believe it will continue to grow, attract even more Azerbaijanis and friends of Azerbaijan from across the continent, and preserve the same spirit of friendship, respect, and unity that has defined it from the beginning."
Throughout the day, teams demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect both on and off the pitch. Beyond competition, the tournament served as a platform for dialogue, networking, and strengthening ties among communities from different countries and cultures.
As the final whistle concluded another successful edition, participants left with new friendships, stronger connections, and lasting memories, reinforcing the tournament's motto:
"Friendship Beyond Borders."
The organizers look forward to welcoming even more teams, families, partners, and supporters to the fourth edition in 2027.
