A Republican scientific conference of young researchers and graduate students titled “Issues of Oriental Philology,” dedicated to the 103rd anniversary of the birth of national leader Heydar Aliyev, was held at the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Baku State University.
Speaking at the conference, Dean of the Faculty Aydan Khandan highlighted the significant role of Heydar Aliyev in strengthening Azerbaijan’s international recognition and shaping the country’s foreign policy. She noted that the establishment of bilateral and multilateral relations with Eastern countries has been one of the key directions of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy. According to the dean, thanks to the great leader’s attention and support, both the field of Oriental Studies and the Faculty of Oriental Studies have developed considerably, leading to the training of hundreds of professional Orientalists.
Deputy Dean Nigar Ismailzade emphasized that the educational policy founded by Heydar Aliyev continues successfully today, with special attention being paid to the development of science as one of the country’s priority state policy areas. She noted that engaging young people in scientific activities, strengthening their research skills, and integrating them into the international academic community remain among the key objectives of higher education institutions. Ismailzade added that Baku State University regularly organizes conferences, seminars, and research projects aimed at unlocking the scientific potential of undergraduate and graduate students.
During the conference, Jamila Damirova, a graduate of the faculty and head of a department at the Nizami Ganjavi National Museum of Azerbaijani Literature, delivered a presentation titled “The Muslimized Christian Literary and Cultural Environment: The Case of Sicily.” Sevda Mir-Bagirova, a lecturer at the Department of Middle Eastern Languages and Literature and a PhD candidate, presented a paper on “Methods of Expressing the Concept of Negation in Persian.”
Other scholarly presentations were also delivered as part of the conference.
