The 4th session of the Joint Commission on Economic, Scientific, Technical, and Cultural Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Iraq was held today in Baku.
To participate in the session, a delegation from Iraq, led by the co-chair of the Joint Commission on the Iraqi side, Minister of Communications Hayam Al-Yasiri, visited Azerbaijan.
Rashad Nabiyev, Minister of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan and co-chair of the Joint Commission on the Azerbaijani side, welcomed the Iraqi delegation and highlighted that as two friendly countries with close historical, religious, and cultural ties, Azerbaijan and Iraq have significant potential to further deepen cooperation across various sectors.
Rashad Nabiyev provided an overview of Azerbaijan’s macroeconomic indicators for the past year and the trade turnover between the two countries, emphasizing that the Joint Commission serves as an effective platform for enhancing bilateral cooperation.
It was also noted that revitalizing the activities of the Azerbaijan–Iraq Business Council could contribute to the development of trade relations between the two countries.
Rashad Nabiyev further spoke about the current situation regarding peacebuilding in the region, as well as the reconstruction and restoration efforts in Azerbaijan’s territories liberated from occupation. He highlighted that the liberated territories are being rebuilt under the State Program on the Great Return and that the region has been designated as a “green energy” zone.
During the meeting, extensive discussions were held on opportunities for cooperation in the fields of economy, industry, trade, mutual investments, oil and gas, digital development, science and education, culture, tourism, youth, and sports.
At the conclusion of the session, the Protocol of the 4th session of the Joint Commission on Economic, Scientific, Technical, and Cultural Cooperation between the Governments of Azerbaijan and Iraq was signed.
It should be noted that the Joint Commission was established based on the “Agreement on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical, and Cultural Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Iraq,” signed in Baku on November 10, 2010.
