On October 30, the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum held the First Scientific and Practical Conference Actual Issues of Azerbaijani Weaponology. Organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum, the event is dedicated to the 5th anniversary of the victory in the Patriotic War and is.

The main objectives of the conference were as follows: to expand the scientific study of the history of Azerbaijani weaponology, which has developed from ancient times to the present day; to organize the exchange of information about Azerbaijani weapons preserved at the local and foreign museums, as well as private collections; to deepen existing knowledge in this field and identify new directions for research.

The event was opened by the museum’s director, Amina Melikova, who welcomed the participants. She emphasized that the conference is a remarkable event for Azerbaijani science, noting that this is the first scientific-practical conference in the country dedicated to Azerbaijani weapons. According to the museum director, although the rich weapon-making traditions of the Azerbaijani people have been shaped over millennia, this field has remained largely overlooked by researchers for various reasons. She added: “The Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum has taken a comprehensive approach to this field. In addition to holding today’s conference, the museum has prepared a catalog dedicated to its weapon collection titled Steel Patterns. Weapons Collection of the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum. Authored by Doctor of Philosophy in History Sabuhi Ahmadov, the catalog presents the history of the museum’s weapon collection, descriptions of each exhibit, and high-quality photographs”. At the end of her speech, Amina Malikova wished the conference success.

The conference included following academic sessions: New Research on Azerbaijani Weaponology; Protection, Display and Restoration Issues of Historical Weapons; Place and Role of Historical Weapons in Art; Historical Weapons as an integral part of the Azerbaijani Artistic Craftsmanship: Restoration of Tradition.

At the event, presentations dedicated to current issues in the science of weaponology were delivered by specialists working in various scientific and educational institutions and museums of Azerbaijan, as well as by independent researchers. The participants exchanged ideas and experiences. In addition, prospects for cooperation aimed at strengthening scientific ties, implementing joint research projects in the future, and promoting Azerbaijan’s weaponological heritage on an international scale were discussed.

Conference participants expressed confidence that this event would contribute to the more systematic and continuous development of research in the field of weapon studies, which is an important component of the nation’s cultural heritage.
