Within the Istanbul Natural Resources Summit (INRES 2026), the 3rd Ministerial Meeting on the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Türkiye-Bulgaria Green Energy Corridor was held.
Azerbaijan was represented at the meeting by Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov, Türkiye by Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar, Georgia by Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili, Bulgaria by Deputy Energy Minister Kirill Temelkov.
During the meeting, it was noted that, within the COP29 in Baku, the initiative to establish the East-West Green Energy Corridor had been put forward and that the project’s Terms of Reference (ToR) document had been prepared and finalized. In the context of growing electricity demand and the increasing strategic importance of electricity interconnections, the importance of implementing this project was emphasized. It was agreed that, in order to accelerate the process, a Roadmap encompassing the necessary measures would be prepared in the near term.
It should be noted that the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Green Electricity Transmission and Trade between the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Türkiye, and the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Bulgaria was signed in Baku on 4 April 2025.
