Mr. Peter Michalko, Ambassador of the European Union to Azerbaijan (EU) and Ms. Kamola Makhmudova, Head of Regional Office of European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) visited the Port of Baku and had a meeting with the leadership of the port.
During the convivial meeting, the parties discussed the potential projects that could be jointly implemented by the EU, EBRD and the Port of Baku to continue enhancing the capacity of the port as a green hub of the region, as well as engaging leading European private companies in the expansion of the port. The participants of the meeting also conversed about partnership areas such as diversification of energy sources and supply chain, digital transformation, building sustainable port operations for strong regional connectivity, and greening the Middle Corridor as a main transportation route between Asia and Europe.
At the meeting, the officials of the EU emphasized the role of Port of Baku as the EU’s flagship project in the region and stressed that this partnership will be expanded into new areas starting from the next year.
EU-Port of Baku cooperation has embarked since 2016, as a result of implemented joint projects in green port operations, digitalization and sustainable development, the Port of Baku has become the first Green Port (ECO-Port) in the region and developed a zero-emissions 2035 strategy.
